Suggestions from our initial Change is Coming event in Kingston:
Ulster Literacy – helps children to read
more people should serve on the school board
adnet monitoring should be pushed
mentoring small business people
schools should encourage volunteering as part of education
establishment of meaningful apprenticeship in the traditional and newer trades and crafts. Make Ulster County a center for excellent craftsmanship in all manual trades
Tap into retired teachers, in an organized way, to volunteer in schools
Get retired people to teach their specialties (I’m a former film-maker/french & public relations)
Do away with tenure (yes! I am a retired teacher)
Allow non-teachers to teach in schools. As it is now Warren Buffet could not teach economics and the Coen brothers could not teach a film class. This is wrong.
Support legislation to eliminate teacher unions or to shift the power base of teacher unions
