Make sure stimulus package includes jobs for women, education, health care, homecare-not just construction
Position national health care as help for American business
Tap into retired teachers for volunteering in schools (NYSERTA?)
Contact Scenic Hudson and Clearwater to see what resources are needed
We need to create a multi-cultural Hudson Valley organization that supports national initiatives in education, health care etc. We need a structure that gives leadership in our Valley and helps people e-mail, demonstrate, rally in Washington. We need an organization with which people can identify so that we can mobilize our efforts along with the national efforts.
What can I (voters) do to make universal health a reality?
Take profit motive out of health insurance
Campaign Finance Reform
Websites to help “social network style” local organizing for all government and volunteer work
Improve local business opportunities – support & encourage. Reduce need to commut.
Set environmental standards for business, building, etc. Renewables, recycling
Support & encourage local civic involvement
Access to quality education
Electoral reform – get rid of electoral college
Support efforts of League of Women Voters
Provide health care for everyone
Reduce greenhouse gases, work to mitigate climate change
Send Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld… to jail
Go beyond education and awareness to get everyone to commit to change
Put arts into education
Make press independent. Need free press
Protest – let our voices be heard
Federal program to reduce greenhouse gases through jobs using FDR WPA & CCC
Involve minorities, blacks, hispanics, poor
Prevent evictions by standing with the homeowner
