AndyDr. Andy Coates, national spokesperson for Physicians for a National Health Plan (PNHP), will address the current health care meltdown. He will discuss: how we have reached the current crises in health care; the pros and cons of current legislative health reform proposals; why the clarity of single payer/medicare-for-all faces media blackout; and how health care reform should integrate with elections reform. His presentation will be followed by an interactive Q&A session.

“It’s important for college students and working families to understand how our grossly expensive health care system is burdening our economy and restraining job and wage growth,” says Dr. Coates, a practicing physician and professor of medicine and psychiatry at Albany Medical College. “There’s currently much confusion about what’s at stake and what can be done. PNHP will be conducting statewide tours to demonstrate the logic and simplicity of health care for all.”

Dr. Andy Coates will be leading a discussion on how the US can meet the global crisis, and resist the worldwide move to privatize, market, and commodify healthcare.

Sponsored by: Democracy Matters, Ulster County Democratic Women, Coalition of Concerned Citizens of New Paltz, Citizens for Universal Healthcare, and the Hudson Valley Progressive Coalition.

Andrew D. Coates, MD is a member of the national board of directors of Physicians for a National Health Program and the secretary of the Capital District (NY) chapter of PNHP. He practices medicine in Albany, NY, where he is assistant professor of medicine and psychiatry at Albany Medical College.
