Vermont’s passage of the nation’s first single payer bill was painstakingly achieved by electing a supportive Democratic Governor, aligned with Vermont’s state legislature, Congressional reps, unions and grassroots advocacy groups. In NY State, Assemblyman Richard Gottfried has submitted a state single payer bill, but it will never see the light of day as long as we have a GOP controlled State Senate. Learning from Vermont and other states leading the charge, Single Payer/New York will be conducting a training session to develop grassroots and political organizing strategies:
