We think of New York as a “Blue State ” – but our State Senate has been controlled by Republicans (and Democrats who have caucused with them) who have blocked progressive legislation:
A bill to keep guns out of the hands of convicted domestic abusers? Blocked by local Republican state senators.
A bill extending the statute of limitations for child abusers? Blocked
Single payer health care in NY? Blocked by a single Republican vote.
Why do we need a solid blue State Senate? NY Health Act, more funding for public schools, legalized marijuana, publicly financed elections, equal pay for women, codification of Roe vs. Wade, property tax reofrm, voting reforms (e.g., early voting, same-day registration, etc.)
We need to put a stop to gerrymandered districts in the NYS Senate before the next U.S. census in 2020.
Look up your State Senate District here.
Then see how it, especially Ulster County, was gerrymandered in 2010. If the Republicans maintain a majority in 2020, expect further gerrymandering after the 2020 census.
