Members of Congress are feeling the heat on the Congressional Review Act resolution to protect net neutrality.
On February 27, there was a nationwide push by grassroots groups and MoCs to push for a Republican Senator to join Susan Collins and be the #OneMoreVote we need to pass the CRA in the Senate.
Momentum is building for net neutrality in Congress, but we’re still a long way away from winning. Over 150 House Democrats have signed on to Congressman Mike Doyle’s resolution, but even if every Democrat signs on we’ll still need at least 24 Republicans to join them for the resolution to advance in the House.
Under the Congressional Review Act, members of the U.S. House and Senate can offer a joint resolution of disapproval on any regulation recently issued by a federal agency.
Net neutrality is a great example of why we need to take back power at the federal and state level. In states with Democratic governments, legislatures and governors have acted swiftly to ensure ISPs don’t get to block or throttle content – for example Governor Cuomo signed an executive order to protect and strengthen Net Neutrality in NY. Both the Assembly and Senate have bills (A9057 sponsored by Cahill, S718sB) introduced to ensure Net Neutrality for NYS contracts. Be sure to call your State Assemblyman and Senator to support Net Neutrality for NYS.
Tell Faso that you expect him to protect the free and open internet by supporting the net neutrality CRA—and if he won’t, you’ll replace them with someone who will.
CALL SCRIPTCaller:Hello! My name is [name] and I’m calling from [town, zip].
I’m calling to ask Rep. Faso to co-sponsor Congressman Doyle’s resolution of disapproval, that would uphold net neutrality and preserve the internet as we know it. The American people overwhelmingly support net neutrality—including 75% of Republicans. It is time for Rep. Faso to show his support and sign on as a co-sponsor.
Staffer: I’ll pass along your thoughts.
Caller: Yes, please do. I strongly support net neutrality and I expect Rep. Faso to represent his constituents and do the same. Please take down my contact information so you can let me know if Rep Faso’s position.
