Script: Hi, my name is ________ and I am urging Governor Cuomo to support invest, not cut our critical social services by taxing the ultra-wealthy.
Prior to COVID-19, New York State ranked the worst in inequality of any state in the nation with harsh racial disparities in education, healthcare, housing, and jobs. And the pandemic has only made it worse. We can not afford to wait for the Federal Government to act, and we can not afford to cut our way out of this crisis. We need to raise revenue by taxing the ultra-wealthy and fully fund our future.
This is why I’m urging Governor Cuomo to support the Fund Our Future package of revenue raising bills. The package includes the Ultra-millionaires Tax, the Billionaires Tax, the Pied-a-terre Tax, the Stock-Transfer Tax, the Stock Buyback Tax, and the Mezzanine Debt Tax. These revenue raisers are critical for us to avoid devastating cuts to social services. We need to invest in our communities to pull us out of it!

.@NYGovCuomo we can not cut our way out of this crisis! We need to tax the ultra-wealthy and invest in our communities. No more austerity! It’s time to Fund Our Future. Support the Fund Our Future package of revenue raising bills now! #BudgetJustice
Background: Prior to COVID-19, New York State ranked the worst in inequality of any state in the nation with harsh racial disparities in education, healthcare, housing, and jobs.
And the pandemic has only made it worse. New York has lost more than 2 million jobs already and State budget cuts will eliminate 250,000 more and decimate the essential services our communities need. Local, municipal governments and nonprofits across the state are already seeing their funding withheld; additional, deeper cuts to K-12 and Higher Education, Healthcare, Housing, and other Public Services are being teed up as the only option to deal with our state’s budget deficit.
Meanwhile, much of the 1% are gaining wealth and income during the pandemic. New York State now has 118 billionaires (up from 112 last year) and during the pandemic, their wealth has increased on average ~10%.
We need our State Electeds to act and we need them to act now; before it’s too late!
