The U.S. Senate has reconvened this week and will be developing the fourth, and possibly last, CARES package of 2020. As you know, the House passed its version — the Heroes Act — which was considered “dead in the water” when it reached the Senate. However, Donald Trump’s vocal support of another series of stimulus checks might open the way for continued relief for millions of Americans:
Sen. Chuck Schumer’s bill, American Workforce Rescue Act, calls for extending unemployment benefits and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), which provides an additional $600 per week to qualified unemployed. Since this proposal is tied to unemployment levels, the people of New York State will greatly benefit as our unemployment rates still remain above the proposed thresholds.
In addition, Sen. Schumer recently joined in support of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ bill to cut $740 billion in defense spending to be redeployed to fund priorities like health care, housing, and childcare in poverty areas.
Our call to action is simple: Demonstrate support for the above legislation and share this information widely.
“Sen. Schumer, I urge you to keep fighting for the American Public about the American Workforce Rescue Act, as well as Sen. Sanders’ bill to redeploy 10% of the defense budget to fund healthcare, housing, childcare, and other more urgent priorities during the pandemic.” Add your personal story if you can!
