The U.S. Senate Banking Committee is considering the nominations of Sarah Bloom Raskin, Lisa Cook, and Phillip Jefferson to be governors of the Federal Reserve, which will be critical in steering the economy through rough waters.

Raskin has been clear in her view that the Federal Reserve has a role in including climate change concerns in their decisions.  Nominated to be the supervisor of banking supervision, she has a reputation for taking a hard line on the regulation of the industry.

Lisa Cook, an economist who studies global economics and racial disparities in economic life, would be the first Black woman on the Federal Reserve board.

Phillip Jefferson is an economist and administrator at Davidson College and would be the fourth Black man to serve on the Federal Reserve.

WALL STREET HATES RASKIN AND IS CHALLENGING COOK’S QUALIFICATIONS—good enough reason to favor their appointments.

Call Senators Schumer (202) 224-6542 and Gillibrand (202) 224-4451 and urge them to keep the Democratic caucus united in support of especially Raskin and Cook.

Hello, this is [your name] calling from [your town or zip] urging Senator Schumer/Gillibrand to do whatever necessary to confirm the nominations of Sarah Raskin and Lisa Cook to be governors of the Federal Reserve.  Their forward thinking views on addressing climate change, on tough banking regulations, and economic justice will add valuable perspectives to the deliberations of the board. A unanimous vote from the Democratic caucus might be needed to get them seated.
