Background:
In exchange for doing what is required by the constitution — pay the government’s bills by raising the debt ceiling — MAGA Republicans want Democrats to agree to cut critical programs like Social Security and Medicare. If default were to occur, it would result in catastrophic effects to the US economy, affecting all Americans.
Even though the debt ceiling has been raised or revised over 78 times since 1960 – 49 times under Republican presidents and 29 times under Democratic presidents – to ensure the government did not default on its debt, McCarthy – who has limited control of the GOP members – indicated this week there will be a struggle to end this debt crisis cleanly.
We must send a clear message to Rep Molinaro, who continues to be evasive and not answer straightforward questions on the debt crisis, Medicare and Social Security. It is important that Rep Molinao fulfill his obligation to avoid a default crisis – without strings attached.
