Members of Indivisible Ulster and local activists hosted a January 6th rally in Kingston, NY, marking three years since the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol and kicking off the 2024 election year by saying: ‘we will always defend democracy.’

On January 6, 2024, a faction of elected officials incited armed right-wing militants to attack the U.S. Capitol, and voted against certifying the results of the 2020 election.  Three years later, Mike Johnson, one of the GOP lawmakers who refused to accept the results of the 2020 election and voted against certifying Biden’s presidency, is now Speaker of the House after House republicans unanimously voted him to the position.

Joined by elected officials, activists marked this day by reminding their communities what’s at stake in the 2024 election, and calling on their neighbors and elected officials to joining them in defending democracy against attacks by the GOP.
