The crowd showed up, even in the rain, knowing that a storm was coming.
This speaks of course to the urgency of the moment, and of our task. It also speaks of our success at calling them to action, and our success as organizers. We provide the confidence that if they show up, they will be safe and that the event will not be chaotic. No small feat, that!
Every ‘thank you’ that I received – and there were many – was confirmation of that trust. Even as the event was being canceled, they lined the avenue and stayed to protest through two rounds of thunderstorms. Many of our volunteers and marshals helped them set up in an orderly and safe line running the length of the park.
An amazing showing of determination all around. I’m so proud of this group and lucky to be a part of it!
