In Action, Democracy

Kingston, NY — On Friday, February 7th, leading Indivisible groups in Ulster County, Citizen Action of NY, NY19 Votes, Left Field, and local advocates joined together in Kingston to protest increased tax cuts for billionaires and corporations on the backs of ordinary working families.

Bonni Rosen, spokesperson for Indivisible Ulster introduced the event by saying, “We have endured 2 weeks of chaos, cruelty and corruption from the Trump Administration. But we are here today to keep our focus on the administration’s end game. They want to guarantee more tax breaks for the already obscene wealth and power of billionaires and corporations at the expense of the rest of us.”

Miriam Rabbam of NY19Votes added, “The Republican controlled Congress wants to make permanent the Trump tax cut for the rich which would otherwise expire at the end of this year.  Continued tax cuts for the rich would be paid for by slashing services we need from child care to health care and much more.  Do you, like me, rely on Medicare? Do you have a loved one in a nursing home supported by Medicaid?  Are you a veteran who gets health care services from a VA hospital?  You – and all of us will suffer from the cuts being planned.  We need a government that works for us, not breaks for the wealthy.”

Rep. Josh Riley-NY19 sent in this statement:  “For too long in this country, the deck has been stacked against working people, and it’s been stacked in favor of the wealthy, the powerful, and the big corporations, Make no mistake: that’s what Elon Musk and DOGE are all about. They want more giveaways for his big corporations and more tax breaks for Elon and his billionaire buddies, and they want all of us to pay for it. We’re not going to let it happen.”

The protest was part of the Indivisible movement’s “We Choose to Fight” national week of action.
