On Saturday, January 28th at 2pm, concerned citizens from the 19th Congressional District (CD19) will call upon Congressman John Faso to voice their opposition to the repeal/gutting of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) aka Obamacare. Voters from across the vast CD19 will gather in front of Representative Faso’s office at 2 Hudson Street in Kinderhook, NY, including members of local Indivisible chapters, the national movement that has grown out of broad-based resistance to the Trump agenda.
Congressman Faso has been appointed to the ACA “retooling committee” and has already voted for the first step in repealing the ACA without having an alternative plan in place. Not only will this strip tens of millions of Americans of their healthcare, but it will also result in tens of thousands of preventable deaths every year.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) states that repeal would result in 18 million people losing their insurance in the first year and more than 30 million over the next decade.
Drs. David Himmelstein and Steffie Woolhandler, professors of public health at the City University of New York’s Hunter College, found that repeal would prove fatal for at least 44,000 Americans every year. The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) found that this same number of American lives is saved each year by simply having access to primary care, made possible through Medicaid expansion. The program has improved or saved the lives of millions of Americans.
All are welcome to this peaceful, nonviolent action. It is possible that Congressman Faso does not understand how you feel about this – make your voices heard! Democracy is a participatory sport, especially in the new world of “alternative facts”.
Stand up! Speak out!
