Seven of the eight announced Democratic candidates will attend an open forum sponsored by Mountain Top Progressives. Each candidate will give an opening statement and then all will take questions from the audience.

The event will be held at the Windham Civic Center, 5379 Route 23, Windham, NY 12496and will begin at 6:30 promptly. It is free and open to the public.

The candidates have a wide range of careers, life experience and ideas for this Congressional District. This forum is an opportunity to find out more about each of them. Following are brief statements from the candidates:

  • Jeffrey Beals – “We need someone who can speak to the many different constituencies in our district, from farmers, to teachers to veterans to union workers to gun owners.”
  • Steven Brisee –“Something I believe to be one of the greatest threats to our democracy is the ways in which the modern political campaign has evolved.”
  • David Clegg – “My experience as a trial lawyer, defending people’s rights, and more than 40 years of community service make me well suited to represent this sprawling and diverse district.”
  • Antonio Delgado – “It’s time to rethink our priorities and make American success stories, like my own, attainable for all families in the Hudson Valley and Catskills.”
  • Brian Flynn – “The top priority for a Representative is to listen to constituents and address their concerns.”
  • Gareth RhodesWe need new leaders who know and love this community to go to Washington and stand up to Trump, and fight for our healthcare, our environment, and our values.”
  • Patrick Ryan“I’m frustrated with politicians who are more concerned with their political future than with the future of the families here — the families they were elected to represent.”
  • Sue Sullivan – “I’m running for Congress because we’re facing real challenges, and it’s time to put the partisan politics aside and work together to do what’s right for the people of the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Greater Capital Region and Central New York.”

The mission of Mountain Top Progressives is to support progressive issues and policies through education, advocacy and local action.  We actively pursue the goals of inclusion and respect in our community, and are unified in the beliefin an America where all people are free to pursue a life with fairness and opportunity. We will act locally for the betterment of our citizens and, in doing so, benefit the larger community, effecting real change in our country. We will pursue these goals without bias, in order to promote the universal values of peace, economic prosperity, environmental integrity, social equality and justice for all.
