Women’s Empowerment in Politics and Activism Panel at Bard
Bard College’s Women in Politics, the College Democrats of New York Women’s Caucus Chair, and Election@Bard are proud to present their Women in Politics Empowerment Symposium!
This event will take place on December 5th at 7PM in the Multipurpose Room at Bard College. The goal of the event is to create a space for all women to discuss leadership, foster innovation, and share ideas relating to policy for our region.
A panel of women professionals will discuss their challenges and triumphs of their political careers.
The panelists included are Oriana Mayorga who is community organizer from Citizen Action of New York which is a grassroots organization tackling issues of education, healthcare, racial justice. Melanie Whaley who chairs Invisible the Fight is On an organization that is resisting to an authoritarian or nationalistic system of government or social group. Jolanda Jansen President of the local League of Women Voters Chapter which encourages informed and active participation in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues. Local politician Robin Lois who is Dutchess County Comptroller Elect. District 106 Assemblymember Didi Barrett who was elected to the New York State Assembly in a special election in March 2012 and re-elected to a full term in November 2012. Maria Jansdotter Farr, the Program Facilitator for Girls Inc. of Ulster and Dutchess Counties where she is working to support young girls in finding their own voices.
This will be followed by student presentations of research, papers and other projects, which we are still accepting applications for. This can be found here:
