Make a Plan to Vote

Election Day is the LAST day to go out to vote. Take advantage of New York’s opportunities to vote BEFORE Election Day.

For primary and general elections you can vote by mail » or in person during an early voting period » ten days before or in person on Election Day ». Be sure the voters you talk to are ready to vote.

Please note: if you are mailing in your ballot, because of new procedures at the USPS, we urge voters to take both of these precautions:

1. Mail in your ballots at least 7-10 days before the June 23 primary, and
2. Before mailing, take your ballot into the post office and request the envelope to be hand date-stamped.

2. Decide How You Will Vote – By Mail, Early in Person, or on Election Day
   • Request a mail ballot:

3. Decide When You Will Vote in the June Primary
   • Last day to request a mail-in ballot: June 13
   • Mail-in ballots must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, June 23, and received by your county BOE no later than June 30.
   • Early voting for the primary is June 13 – 21. Hours vary by county, please consult the UC BOE website »
   • Primary day is Tuesday, June 23. Polls open 6 AM to 9 PM statewide.

4. Research the Candidates
   • For reliable information, check the candidates’ websites, listen to debates, or view their endorsements and contact an organization that you trust.

5. Share Your Plan With Family & Friends
   Voting is a fun, social activity for young and old.
   • Bring the community together! Celebrate your right to vote by going to the polls together!
   • Discussing candidates before filling out your mail-in ballot helps reinforce the importance of voting.
   • Take a selfie to show that you went to vote and post it to @CommonCauseNY (Instagram) or @CommonCauseNewYork (Facebook) with the caption Hands Off Our Vote!
