WHY SHOULD I MAKE A PLAN?

There’s lots of talk in the news about the federal government asking states to purge their voter rolls—and this has resulted in eligible voters getting dropped without being notified. This hasn’t happened yet in Ulster County, but we need to be prepared

General Election Timeline 

  • Sep 18 – first day absentee and early mail voting ballots will be mailed
  • Oct 19 – deadline to submit a change of address
  • Oct 24 –  last day for Ulster county to receive voter registration or mail-in ballot requests
  • Oct 24–Nov 1 – early voting
  • Nov 3 – General Election Day

HOW DO I REGISTER TO VOTE?

US citizens aged 18 and older, who reside in Ulster County, can vote in Ulster County. Read more about who can vote at the NY board of elections.

You can register to vote today online via ny.gov, in person, by phone, or by mailing in a form. For even more ways to register to vote, check the Ulster County Board of Elections site.

  • Oct 19 last day to submit a change of address to the Ulster County Board of Elections.
  • Oct 24 last day to register to vote.

HOW CAN I VOTE?

VOTE early by mail – convenient!

Because of possible postal and other delays, mail in your ballots as soon as possible! Allow 3 weeks for delivery.  They must be  postmarked no later than Nov 3 and received by the Board of Elections by November 10th. Pro tip: deliver the ballot to the Board of Elections in person or to any Early Voting site.

  1. Starting now, apply for your ballot online, by USPS mail, or in person 
  2. Fill out your ballot, and sign and seal it in the security and return envelopes, according to the instructions
  3. Return your ballot by mail, or in person or by a trusted person to any designated polling site or the Ulster Co. Board of Elections

Make sure your mail-in ballot counts!

The Ulster County Board of Elections tracks all ballots. You can enroll in the tracking service to watch your own ballot.

Then, use one or more of these options:

  • mail in your ballot, but don’t just drop it in a mailbox, get it timestamped by a postal clerk at your local post office
  • deliver your signed ballot yourself, or by a trusted person, to any official polling place during Early Voting or on Election Day
  • deliver your signed ballot yourself, or by a trusted person, to the Ulster County Board of Elections (79 Hurley Ave., Kingston)

  • Right now! You can request an early mail voting or absentee ballot.
  • Sep 18  Ulster Co. Board of Elections begins sending absentee and vote-by-mail ballots to voters
  • Oct 24 Last day for the Ulster County Board of Elections to receive online or mail ballot applications
  • Nov 2 Last day for the Ulster County Board of Elections to receive in person ballot applications
  • Nov 3 Last day to postmark your signed ballot
