SENATE CALLS

Senator Schumer: (202) 224-6542
Senator Gillibrand: (202) 224-4451

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______. My email is: ______
I’m calling with several asks. I urge Senator [Schumer/Gillibrand]

  1. To strongly and forcefully oppose Trump’s extremely unqualified and dangerous Cabinet appointments, including Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense, Russell Vought for OMB Director, Kash Patel for FBI Director and RFK Jr., for Secretary of Health and Human Services.
  2. To vote NO on the SAVE Act, which is a voter suppression act that would needlessly disenfranchise millions of voters, endangering our democratic process.
  3. To vote NO on the Laken Riley Act, which would impose mandatory indefinite incarceration on any undocumented person who has merely been accused of burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting-related offenses, making it easier to criminalize and target all noncitizens. It denies the rights of due process and opens the door to mass detention and deportation.
  4. To vote NO on S9, which will force schools to exclude trans children from sports.

Overall, the Senator must forcefully oppose all other bills on the GOP priority list as none are about lowering costs for Americans, addressing the climate crisis or protecting those who are vulnerable. I would appreciate a written response from the Senator on these asks. Thank you.

Rep,  Josh Riley (NY19): (202 )225-5441

This is [your name] from {town, county], I’m calling to thank Congressman [Ryan/Riley] for voting NO on HR 28 [the mis-named Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025] and protecting the rights of trans children to play sports.  Our Democrats in Congress remain steadfast and united in blocking any infringement of civil rights on our citizens, including our vulnerable children.

BACKGROUNDER

SENATE CONFIRMATIONS:

This week, the Senate began confirmation hearings for Trump’s most dangerous cabinet nominees. These hearings are our first and best chance to stop unqualified extremists from assuming roles that will touch every aspect of our lives.

While Trump has nominated 54 individuals, we’re zeroing in on four nominees.

Kash Patel, FBI Director — A Trump loyalist with a history of undermining justice. Patel’s confirmation would politicize the FBI and weaponize it against political opponents.

Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense — A right-wing propagandist with no qualifications. His confirmation would endanger national security and push divisive ideological agendas.

Russell Vought, OMB Director — The architect of Project 2025, designed to dismantle federal programs and concentrate power. His confirmation would supercharge MAGA authoritarianism.

RFK Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services — An anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist whose nomination would threaten public health and safety.

THE SAVE ACT (No Senate Bill # yet]:

[The SAVE Act] would require every American to provide documentary proof of citizenship to register or re-register to vote [although] federal and state law already state that only American citizens can vote in federal and state elections — and these laws carry harsh penalties…

For most Americans, the SAVE Act would mean presenting a passport or birth certificate to register or re-register to vote. This could disenfranchise millions of eligible Americans. More than 21 million U.S. citizens of voting age don’t have proof of citizenship readily available. Less than half of American adults have a valid passport, and millions lack access to a paper copy of their birth certificate…

Claims about widespread voting by noncitizens have been roundly debunked. Studies show only U.S. citizens vote, and the exceptions are vanishingly rare. State-level investigations into voter rolls have repeatedly confirmed that fact. Congress can and should fix the very real challenges that undermine our democracy. Instead, with the SAVE Act, election deniers and conspiracy theorists are seeking to tilt the election system in their favor by blocking millions of eligible American citizens from voting.

THE LAKEN RILEY ACT (No Senate Bill # yet):

The Laken Riley Act exploits the tragic death of Laken Riley to sow widespread fear of immigrant communities. It passed the House and is in the Senate for a vote. It would impose mandatory indefinite incarceration on any undocumented person who has merely been accused of burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting-related offenses, making it easier to criminalize and target all noncitizens. It denies the rights of due process and opens the door to mass detention and deportation.

S.9, THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SPORTS ACT:

H.R. 28 does not strengthen Title IX or protect girls and women in sports. It does nothing to promote equity in resources, funding, or opportunity, or to tackle the sexual abuses of athletes and subsequent cover-ups that have occurred in women’s sports. The bill’s purpose is to further divide our nation, and it is using an extremely vulnerable population to do so.

H.R. 28 will degrade transgender students’ emotional and mental health…by excluding transgender students from participating in sports, would compound feelings of isolation and “otherness.” Participation in sports not only cultivates meaningful bonds within the school community that many of us continue to treasure well into adulthood; participation also develops skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership. All students should have the opportunity to cultivate these skills because they are crucial in building families and careers, and contributing to our communities. H.R. 28 could subject students, whether or not they are transgender, to invasions of privacy
